The appearance of plaque in the toilet may be due to several factors. The first of these is the accumulation of minerals present in water. When washing off microcracks, plumbers are clogged with small particles, eventually forming a calcareous deposit.

Another reason for the appearance of plaque can be urinary stone. It is formed only if you regularly forget about flushing water. Drops of urine simply dry out and unattractive stains appear on the white surface of the toilet. And later, such "drawings" lead to the formation of a more severe urolithic plaque.

How to restore shine to plumbing

Fortunately, today there are many means to fight for the cleanliness of the toilet. Many housewives have already chosen their own methods and know exactly how to clean the toilet. All methods differ in degree of complexity and degree of aggressiveness, because some of them are based on the use of extremely corrosive substances.

Cleaning the toilet can be divided into the following methods:

  • available (folk), as these drugs can be purchased at any store,
  • more complex, as they will require you to go to specialized stores.

Consider the first group of methods - folk remedies.

This universal assistant to any housewife is able to clean the toilet. After all, its components can soften a hard coating, if not at a time, then for 2-3 for sure. At what vinegar can be used any concentrated or 9%, and even apple.

In order for vinegar to be able to clean the surface, it is first necessary to pump out water from the toilet, otherwise its concentration will be too low for a good result. Then it is worth warming up the vinegar essence a little to about 40 ° C and add the same amount of iodine (that is, 1 ml of vinegar to 1 ml of iodine) and a little baking soda, based on the proportion - 1 tablespoon per 200 ml of vinegar.

Lemon acid

Here is another inexpensive tool that helps to dissolve plaque, and thereby clean the toilet. It is necessary to fill a couple of bags of citric acid in the toilet and leave overnight for a better reaction. Then you need to clean the problem areas with a brush and rinse with water. This procedure can be repeated several times for a successful result.

Oxalic industrial acid

Sachets of oxalic acid are available at home stores. Its components do an excellent job with urolithic plaque and are able to perfectly clean the toilet. Use acid as follows. Sprinkle powder under the rim of the toilet bowl and leave overnight. In the morning, rinse it off and clean the toilet with a brush.

You can even clean and whiten the surface of the toilet using ordinary baking soda. She can not only wash dishes, but also remove old plaque. Pour soda powder on the plaque and leave for a while, and preferably at night. In the morning, just walk with a brush, easily removing dirt from the surface of the toilet.

Sparkling water

Known to all carbonated drinks can dissolve stone deposits due to the content in them of a sufficiently large amount of citric acid. Before going to bed, fill the toilet with 3 liters of drink. And to clean the dirt under the rim, you can attach there a piece of cloth dipped in Kola, Sprite or other soda. And in the morning you just need to wash the toilet with a brush.

All of the above methods are quite effective at home, only if the plaque is not too old. But how to clean the toilet when it comes to extensive pollution?

Below we will talk about the use of more specific means, before using which you should read the instructions to find out how to clean the toilet, observing all necessary safety measures. Indeed, strong acidic and alkaline substances can create a chemical burn and damage health.

The second group of methods to combat toilet plaque - radical means.

Orthophosphoric acid

This acid is very strong and it can be poured not only the toilet, but also the drain tank, to clean it from rust. After pouring about 100 ml of a 5-7% solution, you should wait 15 minutes to start cleaning with a brush or a special brush. After this procedure, the toilet will be like new.

Before using phosphoric acid, it will be safe to protect yourself by wearing protective gloves.

The advantage of this tool is its harmlessness to plumbing, since acid does not affect the state of rubber, enamel and plastic. It costs a lot, but can be purchased in stores for motorists. Just look for it should be called "Rust Converter."

Hydrochloric acid solution

Probably everyone remembers experiments in chemistry classes conducted using hydrochloric acid. This 33% solution is very caustic, so its use requires extreme caution, because even inhaling its vapor can burn the lungs and cause irreparable harm to health.

To clean the toilet, pour about a glass of acid and wipe the walls with a sponge dipped in acid. At the same time, gloves must be on hand. After 15 minutes, hydrochloric acid can be washed off, after closing the toilet with a lid.

Hydrochloric acid cannot be used if plastic pipes are connected to the toilet. This can lead to material damage.

Acquiring hydrochloric acid is more difficult, its distribution is strictly controlled. But still, it is sometimes found in hardware stores. And for sure it can be purchased only in stores that sell chemical reagents.

Battery Electrolyte

Sulfuric acid, which is part of the machine electrolyte, helps to wash the toilet and rid it of plaque. The method of its application is similar to the previous one. Safety measures are as stringent as with hydrochloric acid.

You can buy battery electrolyte, of course, in car dealerships.

Liquid electrolyte and hydrochloric acid are not suitable for frequent use, as these substances are so corrosive that they can destroy the surface of the enamel and create cracks.

Chlorine-containing products (White, Domestos, etc.) can be purchased without any problems at any hardware store. The effectiveness of many cleaning products is based on this caustic component. However, its use is not harmless. Even inhaling its recognizable aroma is dangerous for the body, especially for pregnant women. After all, chlorine affects the health of the reproductive system.

To clean the toilet with chlorine at home, put the substance on its surface and rinse with water after about an hour and clean everything with a brush.

Take note

To maintain a constant toilet cleanliness and prevent plaque formation, you can use the following recommendations:

  1. Use pills for the tank. These tablets prevent the formation of urolithic plaque in the toilet, as well as disinfect the surface and create a pleasant aroma.
  2. Adjust the water supply. Excess water leads to the rapid formation of limescale. You can put, for example, a plastic bottle in a barrel to reduce water costs.

How to care for sanitary ware at home?

It is possible to preserve the original appearance of plumbing if you follow a few simple rules:

  1. At least once a week, it is necessary to clean the equipment with a sponge dampened in water and a cleaning agent. It is best to apply a washing solution to the surface of the product, and then after cleaning, rinse the device under running water.
  2. In the event of contamination, they should be removed immediately without waiting for them to dry.
  3. To clean plumbing fixtures, it is not recommended to use products that include chlorine, acids, or enzyme components. If the toilet is made of earthenware, solutions and gels with a pH level of not more than 9-10 are suitable.
  4. For prevention purposes, at least once a week, use special tools to remove limescale and rust.
  5. Clean the toilet regularly with a brush. There are very convenient models equipped with a brush for washing under the rim.
  6. Do not forget to timely clean plumbing fixtures outside.

When cleaning plumbing from pollution, it is strictly forbidden:

  • Use brushes and brushes with coarse or metal bristles, as well as tools with abrasive components. After such cleaning, small scratches and even cracks may appear on the surface of the product, in which various contaminants and pathogenic bacteria will accumulate.
  • Rinse plumbing with boiling water: sudden changes in temperature contribute to the violation of the integrity of the coating.
  • Pour solvent and various aggressive compounds into the toilet.

To avoid damage to plumbing equipment, it is important:

  • Avoid hitting and dropping heavy objects
  • do not leave objects prone to rusty drips in the container,
  • Do not add household chemicals that could damage plastic elements to the container.

It is possible to fight pollution not only with the use of professional substances, but also with folk methods.

Folk remedies for cleaning plumbing

Of all the existing methods to whiten a bath, sink and other equipment, we present the most popular and effective ones.

Method 1 - Soda and Vinegar

Take 1 pack of baking soda and table vinegar. Before cleaning, the inner surface of the bathtub, sink or toilet bowl is first moistened, and then soda is poured there. Complex areas with stone and limescale are additionally smeared with wet soda. After half an hour, vinegar is carefully poured onto the treated surface. As a result of the interaction of the components, a chemical reaction proceeds, accompanied by the release of carbon dioxide. Residues can easily be removed with a regular brush. After completing the procedure, the device must be rinsed with clean water.

Method 2 - Mustard Powder

To prepare the washing solution, 2 tablespoons of crystalline citric acid, the same amount of mustard powder and 4 tablespoons of starch are taken, and then water is added until a pulp consistency is obtained. Such a folk remedy not only allows you to clean the plumbing, but also disinfects it well. All components are absolutely safe for humans and equipment.

Method 3 - vinegar and salt

This method is most often used to remove urinary stone. To prepare the solution you need about 200 gr. 9% table vinegar. It is poured into a heat-resistant dish and heated over low heat to a temperature of forty degrees. Then half a teaspoon of salt is poured into vinegar. The resulting product is applied to the surface of the product. In particularly contaminated areas, the concentration of the composition must be increased.

Method 4 - Wood Ash

Crystalline citric acid and wood ash are mixed in equal proportions. The toilet rinses with water and falls asleep with the resulting mixture at night. In the morning, clean the surface with a brush and rinse off any remaining material.
